Egypt and Qatar are actively pursuing diplomatic moves to urge Hamas to accept the former US president's demand to end the war in Gaza, according to the Egyptian top diplomat.

Growing Pressure on the Group

Badr Abdelatty stated that the opportunity is now for the organization to lay down its weapons and refrain from offering Israeli forces any pretext to continue its offensive in the region, where two dozen Gazans were lost their lives on Friday.

“We must avoid providing any justification for ongoing civilian casualties, which have escalated far beyond the events of October 7th,” the minister stated.

He explained that Egypt is “in close contact with Qatar and Turkey to persuade Hamas to agree to the terms”.

Key Points of the Trump Proposal

The initiative would demand the group to:

• Disarm and withdraw from political activities
• Release the remaining 48 hostages from the 2023 attack, including two dozen are believed to be living

In exchange, Israeli authorities would:

• Phase out its forces from Gaza
• Be replaced by an multinational troops
• Allow a transitional authority headed by Trump

Observers concur that the proposal would spell an end to Hamas’s identity as an fighting force, while the Israeli side would make few concessions.

Internal Divisions within Hamas

Hamas is divided over its reaction, with factions asking for a delay to evaluate the proposal.

Izz al-Din al-Haddad has opposed the plan, viewing it as a move to eradicate the group if they comply.

Those familiar with the matter indicate that Hamas is likely to propose amendments regarding:

• The requirement to lay down arms
• Remaining troops of Israeli forces in the area
• Safeguards that the Hamas leaders will not be attacked

Gaza Situation Deteriorates

Israeli forces persisted in its military actions in the northern area and bombardment across the wider strip on the recent day, killing 28 people.

Several of the casualties were in the northern city, while the others were killed in the south, among them three in an Israeli drone strike in al-Masawi, which had been earlier labeled a secure area.

Israel issued its last evacuation order for Gaza City on earlier this week, with the defence minister declaring that anyone remaining would be deemed affiliated with armed groups, a designation that violates international law.

Hundreds of thousands of people remain trapped in the city, many of whom who lack the means for the trip to southern Gaza, which is said to cost more than $1,000.

“Numerous civilians are stranded on roadsides, awaiting shelter,” commented Sarah Davies.

The UN declared that there is no protected area for evacuees from Gaza City, as areas labeled as secure areas in southern Gaza are dangerous.

James Elder labeled the concept of protected spaces as “unrealistic”, adding that bombs are launched with alarming regularity and schools serving as safe havens are frequently demolished.

Hospitals under Overwhelming Demand

Hospitals in southern Gaza are operating beyond capacity, with the Red Cross field hospital accommodating over twice its intended capacity.

Recently, one of the last functioning hospitals received the remains of 27 individuals of people fatally wounded by the Israeli military.

Dr Ahmad al-Farra referred to the circumstances as “exceptionally challenging”.

Israel has been accused of striking healthcare facilities and staff, with medical staff reportedly detained while heading to her job in the area.

Israel has asserted that apprehended doctors had ties to the group, though lacking proof.

Fatalities from Israel’s war in Gaza has reached over 62,000 civilians dead and nearly 170,000 wounded, per the Gaza health authority.
