Government Official Says MoD Examining Potential Threat from Vehicles from China, as Personnel Advised to Avoid Secret Talk in Vehicles.

An defense minister has confirmed that the Ministry of Defence is actively investigating the potential threats associated with Chinese vehicles, while staff have been instructed to avoid talking about secret matters in all vehicles.

Safety Advice for MoD Staff

During a recent appearance on a radio station, a defence minister addressed claims that Ministry of Defence officials have been instructed not to talk about classified material while riding in Chinese vehicles.

The minister explained that the MoD is “looking into” Chinese vehicles within its fleets, however noted that security is a concern in all contemporary vehicles.

Our department has a collection of tens of thousands of vehicles in the MoD and those vehicles represent a very small number.
However whether you’re traveling in a Chinese car or a non-Chinese car, our instruction to our staff is not to plug MoD technology into their car, not to have conversations at a classified classification in any vehicle, due to the increasing risks of eavesdropping that are present in every single automobile, to only have those confidential talks in protected areas. This is a prudent and reasonable thing for everyone worried about safety.

When it was suggested that it would be prudent for the ministry to cease using all cars from China, Pollard responded: ‘That’s precisely what we are looking into at the present time.”

Broader Security Background

This revelation follows reports from Scandinavian countries have warned the United Kingdom to the existence of multi-purpose shutdown mechanisms in Chinese electric buses, which could enable China to switch off public transport and cause chaos to public transit.

Additionally, a Russia intelligence vessel has been shining lasers at RAF aircrew, labeled a “highly dangerous” action by defence officials.

The wider security environment underscores the significance of strong measures and vigilance in every areas of official activities, from transport usage to communication habits.
