Paris Saint-Germain Overcomes Marseille in a Shootout to Secure French Season-Opening Trophy in Kuwait.

Trophy celebration scene

The Parisian club has now secured the prestigious cup on fourteen different times.

The Parisian giants needed a stoppage-time equaliser followed by a successful penalty shootout to overcome their arch-rivals in Kuwait and capture a fourth straight French Super Cup title.

The European champions appeared to be sailing towards a comfortable triumph in the match between the French league champions and the French Cup winners after the French winger found the scoring early on.

Yet, the southern French side fired two times late to seize a shock advantage. Initially, the English forward converted from the penalty spot, before the defender inadvertently turned the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a remarkable twist of events, the Portuguese striker snatched a vital leveler in the dying seconds to send the match into a penalty shootout. PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier then stood as the hero, stopping crucial kicks from O'Riley and Traore.

From the spot, Ramos, Vitinha, Nuno Mendes, and the young talent all scored successfully for PSG to complete a convincing penalty win.

Now 14-time winners Paris Saint-Germain, who faced last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Marseille after completing a league and cup double, have now lifted this competition for the 12th time in the past 13 years.
